Tandil, Argentina – After a week of competition in the southern hemisphere USA Surf Casting Team Captain Ryan Lambert and team members Conner Brown and “Big Dan” Nassiff are back state-side with accolades, stories and new friends.

The trio competed in the 2025 FIPS-Mer Long Distance Casting World Championship, which is today the premier international surf casting tournament, featuring dozens of entrants from Africa, Europe, and the Americas. They are events where the best in the world gather on large marked fields to see who can cast 100, 125, 150, and 175 gram sinkers the farthest using modified surf fishing tackle. As in past years, the 2025 competition lasted four days; one for each sinker weight category.

Conner Brown of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina led the Americans, and all but one of the entire field of casters in the 175 gram sinker category. His best cast was 260.16 meters (853’ 5”). Just several weeks before this international tournament, Brown captured the United States all-time distance record for this weight, and it has come to be his bread and butter.

Team Captain Ryan Lambert’s breakthrough moment came on the last day of competition as he hurled the 100 gram sinker over 860’ to land in the second place position for that weight category. His longest cast of the tournament sent a 125 gram sinker over 875’ on day three, but in this highly competitive sinker class, the cast ranked #7 for distance among other individuals.

Dan Nassiff’s strongest performance, like Brown, came on day one with the 175 gram sinker… a 230.35 meter cast that put him in the middle of the pack. Nassiff broke 800’ with the 125 gram sinker two days later. Among US surf casting clubs, 800’ is a sought-after benchmark that defines elite casters, but again, in this competitive international category, his ranking landed at #33.

In overall team rankings, the US finished in the number five spot out of eleven teams. After making a careful study of the international surf casting tournament environment, Lambert and Team USA are already formulating new tactics and strategies to move the United States and her athletes progressively towards the title of World Champions.
