State College, PA — US Youth Fly Fishing Team, the Reel Girls Foundation, and the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation held a girls Fly Fishing event in Interlachen, FL.

The half-day event aimed at getting girls out on the water, taught fly fishing skills as well as water safety at Lake Lagonda Park in Interlachen, FL. Lake Lagonda is 49 acre a public lake located in Putnam County known for its abundance of large bass and panfish.This was the first of its kind in US Angling history to target bass. Cortland Line Company generously provided the fly fishing gear used in this event and Major Bass Media was the onsite organizer.

Teaching the event was Ashley Wilmont of Pennsylvania, a member of the US Women’s Fly Fishing Team. This is one of several events organized by US Angling Board Chair and Reel Girls founder, John Ford. “The USA Fly Fishing Youth Team is delighted to partner with the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation and US Angling in Florida to sponsor the first ever bass fly fishing event for girls, and we are looking forward to expanding these activities in the future.” said Ford.
