Team USA Saltwater Kayak Fishing Wins Silver at the 2025 PanAm Championships

Mexico hosted the 2025 Pan American Championships of Saltwater Kayak Fishing this March in stunning La Paz, where top kayak anglers from across the Americas gathered to compete during peak yellowtail season. The competition was fierce, and Team USA delivered—earning silver overall, silver in the individual standings, and gold in the women’s division.

La Paz, known for its crystal-clear waters, world-class fishing, and incredible food, proved to be an ideal host city. Although the original tournament days were impacted by rough weather, organizers quickly adjusted the schedule to take advantage of safer conditions. The competition took place at Coyote Beach, where the powerful yellowtail gave every competitor a run for their money.

Bonito, sierra mackerel, snappers, and groupers added to the action, giving anglers plenty of opportunities to rack up points under the PanAm catch-video-release format. The scoring system allows up to three fish per species, with bonus points awarded for species diversity—making strategy and skill just as important as strength.

After months of preparation, Team USA rose to the challenge. Head Coach Lance Clinton earned silver in the overall individual standings, and Annie Nagel claimed gold in the women’s division. The team’s collective effort secured silver in the overall team standings.

Team Mexico proved tough to beat on home waters, capturing gold in the team division. Jose Morales earned men’s individual gold, while teammate Daniel Blanco took individual bronze. Yesenia Hernandez secured silver in the women’s division. Team Guam claimed bronze in the team standings after a major journey from across the Pacific. Argentina’s Melina Polentarutti rounded out the women’s podium with a bronze.

Special thanks go to event organizers Luis Miguel, Chuy Morales, Aden Arce, and Jonatan Carrera for their dedication and hard work. Together, they are growing the sport and making international kayak fishing history.
