Salt Lake City, UT – USA Ice Fishing Team, the official ice fishing team and governing body under US Angling, is proud to announce the appointment of Joe Martinez as its new President. A dedicated leader in the ice fishing community and an experienced international competitor, Martinez brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to the role.

Martinez has a long-standing history with competitive ice fishing, having served as a spotter for Team USA both in Mongolia and Michigan for World Championships and competing in numerous local ice fishing events. His deep understanding of the sport, from grassroots participation to global competition, makes him the ideal candidate to lead USA Ice Fishing into its next chapter. He remains actively involved in the sport and will continue to compete in future ice fishing events while serving as President.

In addition to Martinez’s appointment, USA Ice Fishing Team is pleased to announce Thane Melton as the new Vice President and Steph Sissell as the new Secretary. Melton and Sissell bring valuable experience and dedication to the organization, further strengthening the leadership team as they work to expand the sport’s reach and success. 

As President, Martinez will focus on expanding participation in ice fishing competitions, growing youth involvement, and strengthening the team’s presence on the world stage. Under his leadership, USA Ice Fishing Team aims to develop a stronger pipeline of talent and enhance the sport’s recognition within the angling community.

I look forward to working with our talented athletes, competing alongside them, and bringing more opportunities for anglers to showcase their skills at the highest levels.”

USA Ice Fishing Team operates under US Angling, the national governing body for international competitive fishing, representing the U.S. in world championship events sanctioned by FIPSed (Fédération Internationale de la Pêche Sportive en Eau Douce). The team is currently preparing for the XXII World Ice Fishing Championship in Sweden, where they will compete against top international teams from around the world.
