State College, PA – July 11, 2024: USAngling gives a huge congratulations to Guy Marsh (1st place) and Lance Clinton (2nd place) of Team USA for their individual podium finishes at the 2024 Pan American Saltwater Kayak Fishing Championship in Costa Rica! The 2-day tournament, sanctioned by the Pan American Sportfishing Federation, took place on June 22nd and 23rd at Ballena Bay in Tambor, Costa Rica.

Guy Marsh of Team USA won the individual gold medal with a spectacular overall score of 296 points. He racked up 136 points on day 1 and 160 points on day 2. Lance Clinton of Team USA won the individual silver medal and was close behind with a stellar overall score of 285 points- 119 points on day 1 and 166 points on day 2. Jonathan Velazquez of Team Mexico won the individual bronze medal with an admirable overall score of 281 points- 167 points on day 1 and 114 points on day 2.

Guy Marsh recognized Lance Clinton and his encouragement, lessons, and tips and tricks over the past year. He said “When I stood there by my friend Sunday, he with silver and me with gold, I knew it should have been the opposite. I would not be in the top 10 without Lance Clinton. I am thankful for his fishing tips; I am thankful for his friendship; I am blessed that God brought him into my life. Thank you Lance for being the friend you are.”

The tournament was a catch-video-release format and each angler could submit up to 12 fish per day with scoring based on a points per species system. Catching more variety resulted in “Slam” points, which were added to the angler’s total score.

The anglers targeted the following: Needlefish, Skipjack, Sierra, any Jacks, Snappers, Barracuda, Grouper, Pompano, Snook, Croaker, Amberjack, Rainbow Runner, Wahoo, Mahi, Rooster fish, Yellowfin Tuna, and Sailfish.

“Guy and Lance pre-fished more than anybody on Team USA and put in the time studying the maps and scouting fishy areas,” says Allen Sansano, USAKFS Secretary and Team USA angler. “They freely shared this knowledge with the rest of the team. Guy and Lance 100% earned the win!”
