Pompano Beach, FL — The waters off Pompano Beach were buzzing with excitement as Extreme Kayak Fishing hosted the highly anticipated Summer Slam 1, a USAngling-sanctioned Regional Qualifier for Team USA Saltwater Kayak Fishing. A total of 10 top anglers earned their invitation to the 2025 USA Saltwater Kayak Fishing National Championship, scheduled for August 9th in Pompano Beach, Florida.

Known for its beautiful weather and thriving offshore reef systems, Pompano Beach once again proved to be a prime location for high-level competition. With sunken ships dotting the ocean floor, anglers chased coveted offshore species including Kingfish, Blackfin Tuna, Mahi, Wahoo, and Sailfish.

The tournament saw calm morning winds followed by a powerful afternoon current, testing the endurance and skill of every competitor. Many athletes battled intense heat and humidity, with some barely returning to shore before the final cut-off. Despite the challenges, top performers landed impressive fish and were rewarded with substantial cash prizes and gear on stage.

USA Team alumni Justin Ritchey and Mikey Molnar—both experienced Florida anglers and veterans of the Pan American Championships—competed in their home waters. While Molnar narrowly missed the podium, he landed an exciting Sailfish, adding a highlight to the day’s catches.

Tournament Director Joe Hector, also a USAngling Regional Director, once again delivered a world-class event. With a lively pre-launch party, a massive raffle, live bands on the beach, and the largest stage in saltwater kayak fishing, the event was a celebration of both sport and community.
