MICHAEL BARTGIS

USA Kayak Fishing Saltwater

Michael’s kayak fishing addiction began in 2009 after moving to Arlington, VA and he began fishing on the Chesapeake Bay & surrounding waters. At the same time a local fishing group called Snaggedline was just getting started and he found a home with a group of anglers who were figuring out the sport and their kayak fishery at the same time. After venturing up to the 2010 Jamaica Bay Kayak Tournament, Michael and a few snaggedliners decided to start a similar local event to raise money for charity, fish for bragging rights, and foster a local kayak community – the Chesapeake Bay Kayak Anglers Tournament. During its 6 year run, it was the largest kayak tournament in Maryland with over 115 anglers competing each year. Michael has been a member of the Hobie Kayak Fishing Team for over 6 years and has enjoyed kayak fishing up & down the East Coast and some exotic destinations to Los Buzos in Panama (where he fished with other USA Athletes Robert Fields & Dakota Dunmire) and DIY trips to Mexico and Belize.
