USA Kayak Fishing Saltwater  |  Athlete

Corey Apo lives on the Hawaiian island of Maui and comes from a long family of Hawaiian fishermen. Fishing has always been a passion of his because it’s deep in his blood and a strong part of his culture. His dad taught him to fish when he was 6 years old and from there he got into spear fishing and boat fishing. He got into kayak fishing 4 years ago because boats cost too much money and the boat captains would keep all the fish. Through trial and error Corey gained the ability to load up his kayak with his own fish and provide sustainable food for his family. He started to compete in kayak fishing tournaments and won first place in the 2021 toys for tots kayak fishing tournament and first place in the 2021 Maui Sporting Goods Jigging tournament, taking top honors and even catching a bigger fish on his kayak than the boat division. He has also placed in several other Maui kayak fishing tournaments and has proven himself to be a top kayak angler to contend with. He is a live bait master and performs well with a jig. In 2023, Corey racked up a very impressive 64 mahi mahi, 38 ono (wahoo) and 16 yellowfin tuna. He also recently caught his very first short-bill spear fish this year. Corey is very honored and proud to represent Hawaii and team USAngling in Costa Rica.
