USAngling Saltwater Kayak Fishing Announces California Regional Qualifier: The Tom Troop Tribute Tournament

USAngling Saltwater Kayak Fishing is proud to announce the California Regional Qualifier, The Tom Troop Tribute Tournament, taking place May 2–3, 2026, in the renowned waters of San Diego Bay.
As part of the official USAngling Regional Qualifier Series, this event will serve as a key pathway to the USAngling Saltwater Kayak Fishing National Championship. Anglers will compete in a two-day, multi-species format designed to test versatility, decision-making, and performance across San Diego’s dynamic fishery.
The top 10 finishing anglers will earn advancement to the National Championship, scheduled for August 15–16, 2026, in San Diego, California, representing the USA Saltwater California Kayak Team on the national stage.

EVENT OVERVIEW
Competition begins with a Captain’s Meeting on Friday, May 1, where anglers will gather for final instructions, tournament materials, and an opportunity to connect with fellow competitors and families ahead of competition.
Anglers will launch from two of San Diego Bay’s premier access points, fishing both the Back Bay and Front Bay across two days of competition.

FORMAT & COMPETITION
- Kayak-only competition
- Catch, Video, Release (CVR) scoring
- Multi-species format
- Motors permitted for this qualifier
This format emphasizes angler adaptability and rewards those who can effectively locate and catch multiple species across varied structure and conditions.
PRIZE STRUCTURE
- 1st Place – $1,500
- 2nd Place – $750
- 3rd Place – $500
