USA Kayak Freshwater Fishing Team Qualifier Results

Lake Murray, SC — May 22, 2024: Kayak fishing anglers met on the beautiful waters of Lake Murray, South Carolina, on April 27 – 28, 2024, for the highly anticipated Kayak Fishing Qualifier, hosted by Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism Board. This event served as the battleground for anglers striving to secure their spot on the USA Kayak Fishing Team and the chance to represent their nation in the upcoming 2024 Pan American Championship to be held back on Lake Murray.

The two days of fierce competition resulted in catch, photo, release measurements that equated to an approximate 17-to-18-pound daily bag. These top performers now join the elite USA Kayak Fishing Team. Their efforts show a dedication to the sport and earned them the honor of representing their country on the international stage.

Top 6 Qualifiers:

  1. Anthony Garcia (CA) – 1st place with a two-day total length of 185.50”.
  2. Nick Huddleston (SC) – 2nd place with 171.00”.
  3. Deamen Henderson (GA) – 3rd place with 165.00”.
  4. Rus Snyders (TN) – 4th place with 162.25”.
  5. Josh Stewart (TN) – 5th place with 162.25”.
  6. Jake Suvak (SC) – 6th place with 161.75”.


The event received overwhelming support from local communities and kayak fishing enthusiasts, highlighting the sport’s growing popularity and significance both nationally and internationally. 

As anticipation builds for the upcoming Pan American Championship, the USA Kayak Fishing Team stands ready to proudly showcase their talents on behalf of their country. “I had an amazing week of fishing on Lake Murray and I’m ecstatic with the win! It feels awesome to bring that 1st place trophy back to the West Coast! I am Honored to be a part of Team USA and represent this amazing Country we are so fortunate to call home!” said First Place winner Anthony Garcia from California.

With the conclusion of the qualifier, the selected athletes have earned their place on the USA Kayak Fishing Team, securing the privilege of competing in the 2024 Pan American Championship. Scheduled September 27th to 29th, this esteemed event will witness elite kayak anglers from across the Americas competing for glory and national pride.  “We’re excited to witness the next generation of kayak fishing talent emerge and represent the United States with pride and skill.” said Craig Storms USA Kayak Fishing Team President.
