USA Kayak Fishing Saltwater team is proud to announce the first ever Pan Am Championship dedicated to saltwater kayak fishing. This event will be held in Bahia Ballena Costa Rica June 21-23 2024. The Pan American Sportfishing Federation has awarded this event to Costa Rica and the fishing is expected to be outstanding.

7 countries including teams USA, Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Colombia, and Venezuela will compete head to head for Pan American Gold Medals. Athletes fish for a wide variety of exciting Pelagic and inshore species. A point system will be used to score individual species with Marlin being the highest score and Needle fish being the lowest score. The top 3 scoring individuals anglers will be awarded individual medals. The top 3 anglers from each country will be added together to determine team medals. The tournament will be all catch and release and a video system will be used to verify scoring.

The tournament will take place in the beautiful 5 star Barcelo Playa Tambor in the Guanacaste province, with all inclusive services provided to all the anglers including meals. The schedule begins with a dinner and team inauguration at the Barcelo San Jose Palacio hotel where teams will be presented and proudly present their flag. Fishing commences on Saturday June 22 and continues on Sunday June 23. The tournament wraps up with a dinner, award ceremony, and presentation of the flags in Barcelo Playa Tambor.

This new championship is sure to create a lot of excitement. There is nothing better then anglers battling big fish in small kayaks. Team USA is planning to bring 12 anglers for a real shot at winning gold. Stay tuned for team announcement and more detail.

Playa Bahia Ballena (Whale Bay) in Costa Rica is a beautiful and famous beach known for the nearby Marino Ballena National Park. Bahia Ballena is on the Southern Pacific coast in south Puntarenas. It’s located in Costa Ballena in the Osa Peninsula, which stretches from Domincal and Ojochal. Bahia Ballena is famous for what whale tail shape that beach and rainforest create during low tide. It is one of the best places in Costa Rica to see whales and dolphins, coral reefs and tropical marine life, along with an abundance of wildlife in the nearby national parks. Many adventurous travelers like to visit Bahia Ballena because there are many adrenaline-pumping activities in the area. Come to bahia ballena for swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, scuba diving, surfing, hiking, kayaking, and horseback riding.

Arrival in Costa Rica at the Juan Santa María International Airport. Each participant will be received by the organizing committee and taken to the Hotel San José Palacio where they will spend the first night in San José

5:00 – Departure from the Hotel to the Ferry in Puntarenas province (breakfast on the

7:00 – Boarding the Ferry to Puerto Paquera

8:00 – Puerto Paquera Arrival

9:00 – Hotel Barcelo Playa Tambor arrival

10:00 – Tournament starts

12:30 – Lunch Time

17:00 – Closing of the day and delivery of videos

18:00 – Check in to rooms

19:00 – From this time onwards, dinner is served.  Being all-inclusive and a buffet, you can accommodate your time for drinking and eating.

5:00 – Start the tournament day

8:00 – From this time onwards, participants can return and have breakfast

12:00 – From this time onwards, participants can return and have lunch
