Wes Calvan is proudly born and raised on the Island of Maui. He comes from a background of competitive spearfishing, but does every style of fishing. As a true hunter and perfectionist, his mission is to catch the biggest and baddest fish wherever he finds himself. As a career firefighter, he is used to the unpredictable nature of life and is always ready to adapt. Wes is also a purist. He fishes on a traditional style kayak and refuses to give up his paddle! A true ambassador of keeping things simple. When asked why he paddles, his response was “I like the limitations. I like knowing I can only haul a certain amount of fish…or one really big one! I like knowing the work doesn’t end after the fish meets the kayak. The real adventure is getting the catch back to shore, most times in the worst conditions.” His furthest paddle in a day has been 45 miles.

Wes has won tournaments and landed every species of fish in Hawaii. He is honored to bring and represent the Hawaiian style of fishing throughout the world.
